Little League World Series 2008 for Nintendo consoles
August 6th, 2008 by Edwin in Uncategorized
Folks who are interested in baseball, take note! Activision has just made available the Little League World Series 2008 for both the Wii and Nintendo DS. Developed by NOW Production, the game’s main aim is to capture the essence and competitive fun of the most popular organized youth sport in the world. It will take a true blue baseball fan to appreciate the work that has gone into both titles, and it will be interesting to see more Wiimotes flying around for folks who have the Wii version as they step up to the plate and try to slug one out of the park. As for the DS, I suspect the stylus will also play a pretty important role when it comes to swinging the bat.
Gameloft launches Wild West Guns
August 5th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
Gameloft has just announced that it will be rolling out Wild West Guns, a compilation of shooting mini games that are set in the classic western era, and this title will be available on an exclusive basis for Nintendo’s WiiWare downloadable games service. This is the second title from Gameloft to hit the WiiWare channel, and it will be available for 1,000 Wii Points - that’s like $10 in real world currency, although I would say that you’re getting more bang for your buck these days since the US dollar has depreciated badly against other currencies since the Wii launched.

Perfect World is more often than not mentioned in the same breath as MMORPGs, and this time round things are a little bit different. The China company will be rolling out the Hot Dance Party 2.0 expansion pack come this August 5th, and it prides itself in being the first casual game developed by Perfect World with its proprietary Angelica 3D game engine. So far, domestic online game players have warmed up to it pretty well, so the expansion should see a fair amount of purchases, too.

Summer Athletics to be released this month
August 1st, 2008 by Edwin in General Gaming News
All seems to be moving along nicely when it comes to preparations for the summer Olympics in Beijing that will kick off in exactly one week from now. This can only mean one thing - a cash cow that has to be weaned to its maximum, and game developers are not lost on this fact for quite some time already. We’ve seen numerous sports titles released to date, much earlier than the event itself, and I can clearly remember Mario & Sonic at the Olympics for the DS platform as being one of the more fun titles to date. Conspiracy Entertainment has a new title for sports buffs, known as Summer Athletics. Unfortunately, it seems to be available only for the PS2 and will retail for an affordable $14.99.

Fans of the sleeper hit Geometry Wars on Xbox LIVE Arcade will be able to rejoice once more with Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 having hit the market today. This title was developed by Bizarre Creations, and will be the sequel to the original smash hit by throwing players straight into the fray to test their reflexes against bunch after bunch of enemies that come in the form of shapes. Who says that games have to be bloody these days in order to attract an audience? There is still market and room for creativity as exemplified by Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, and best of all is the replayability value stacks up high thanks to half a dozen heart-pumping gameplay modes with individual levels being able to be played in multiplayer mode for up to four

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor announced
July 30th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
Sierra Entertainment has announced yet another movie tie-in video game - The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor for a wide range of platforms, including the venerable PS2, the Wii and the DS. Apparently, the game will mirror the fast-paced action and adventure found in the movie, but it must be played to be believed. You can’t really rely on marketing hype these days, as movie franchises in video games rarely translate to a pleasurable experience, but is more of a chore instead. Hopefully this one bucks the trend.
