Zoo Hospital targets the Wii

May 7th, 2008 by Edwin in Uncategorized

zoo-hospital-wii.jpgIt goes without saying that while the Wii might be doing gangbusters where console sales are concerned, it isn’t really all that healthy on the serious software front. By serious software, I mean noteworthy games that are released, including blockbusters from Nintendo themselves. Unfortunately, the quality gap between those in that category as well as those outside of it is just pretty big, and rarely comes along a title that has absolutely no hype surrounding it but managed to gain a cult following by word of mouth alone. Zoo Hospital for the Wii could be a sleeper hit (not wildly successful but good enough to warrant a sequel, perhaps?) when it is finally released this August.

Activision to launch Rapala Fishing Frenzy

May 3rd, 2008 by Edwin in Uncategorized

rapala-fishing-frenzy.jpg

Activision will be launching Rapala Fishing Frenzy later this summer, bringing the latest instalment of a popular angling game from the games publisher to the masses. Developer Fun Labs has worked closely with Rapala, famously known as one of the world’s largest manufacturer of fishing lures and #1 fishing brand in the world. I suppose this is but an extremely niche title, since fishing isn’t exactly everyone’s cup of tea. If you happen to be on the other side of the fence though, it bodes well to be thrilled. After all, Rapala Fishing Frenzy will feature heart pounding fishing action in more than 20 different tournament events to grant you a somewhat similar excitement without having to even head outdoors. One drawback though - you will definitely miss the chance to bond with nature while being confined in your living room with this game

Rollin’ Rascals for the DS

May 2nd, 2008 by Edwin in Uncategorized

rollin-rascals.jpgMajesco seems to be on a hot trail lately, blazing the DS with a slew of games. I think the company really got its second wind after Cooking Mama’s success which virtually saved its bacon. Today, we’ll look at a new title for the DS - Rollin’ Rascals. This puzzle game will definitely appeal to brainiacs as the player attempts to round up the lost residents of Kololo Kingdom and return them home. You are challenged to reunite matching pairs of adorable critters ranging from pandas to puppies to pigs, simply by rolling them around obstacles and into each other to clear the game board of pets before time runs out. A tinge of Katamari there, perhaps?

April 16th, 2008 by Edwin in Uncategorized

hotshots.jpgSony has rolled out Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 for the PSP recently. Guess the multi-million unit selling Hot Shots Golf franchise will receive yet another winner - will this finally turn the tide in the PSP’s favor around the world, or will it just push the PSP on top of the DS Lite where domestic sales in Japan are concerned? Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 brings a portable golfing experience that features beautiful new courses and wacky characters, along with hundreds of customization options including clothes, accessories, and equipment. In addition, you will be able to participate in exciting multiplayer options such as 16-player online tournaments and ad hoc capability for one-on-one or Stroke Mode challenges.

Heroes of Might and Magic Online beta test

April 14th, 2008 by Edwin in Uncategorized

homm-virtuak.jpg

Ahh, Heroes of Might and Magic certainly brings back plenty of fond memories. The fact that I have uttered “just one more turn” more times than I can remember is a testament to the game’s greatness. Somehow, the gameplay was designed in such a manner where you felt as though you could go on and on without stopping, taking only the briefest of breaks to answer nature’s call as well as eat a slice of pizza on the go. NetDragon Websoft Inc. recently announced that it will be starting its limited open beta test client server of the game Heroes of Might and Magic Online, with the final game to be released later this year.

Gameloft releasing Brain Challenge on Nokia N-Gage platform

April 7th, 2008 by Edwin in Uncategorized

brain-challenge.jpgGameloft will be rolling out Brain Challenge for the Nokia N-Gage platform, allowing players to work their cerebrums by indulging in mini-games in order to kill boredom, stress, or just for the sake of challenging their high score across various Nokia N-Series devices such as the N95 8GB and N81. There will be a dozen types of activities which cover four categories, including Memory, Visual, Logic and Math which supposedly go some way to help train certain areas of brain activity. Brain Challenge features two different modes of play, where the Daily Test mode allows players can play a randomly chosen exercise from each of the four categories. The game will automatically adjust the level of difficulty depending on your brain’s performance, while in Training mode, players will select their own difficulty and start working from there.

Halo 3 week updates

September 12th, 2007 by Edwin in Game Previews, Uncategorized

halo3-party.jpg

There is no need to underline the importance of Halo 3 in the world of video games, and the whole world (or at least North America and pockets of gamers across the rest of the globe anyway) is waiting with bated breath for Halo 3 to be released. Rest assured, the online gaming community on Xbox Live will probably migrate to Halo 3 in droves, leaving other triple A titles like Gears of War and even Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six series behind as they take on the role of Master Chief once again. What better way to further build on Halo 3 hype than having Microsoft unveil the festivities planned in the week ahead?

PC version of BioShock demo announced

August 14th, 2007 by Edwin in Game Previews, Uncategorized

bioshock.jpgXbox 360 owners will be able to enjoy BioShock in the near future, but at the meantime, they will just have to settle for a demo that is currently available via Xbox Live. Unfortunately, the demo weighs in at a whopping 1.35GB, and not surprisingly the high demand has led to reports of slower than usual download speeds which isn’t really a problem as you can always leave your Xbox 360 running overnight while you head off to bed. While this demo is meant for the Xbox 360 community only, 2K has assured that a PC demo is in the works as well and will be available sometime this month. Hopefully this announcement will pacify rabid BioShock fans on the PC platform for the moment.

Nintendo unveils Brain Age 2 bundle

August 8th, 2007 by Edwin in Games – New Releases, Gaming Hardware, Uncategorized

brain-age-2-bundle.jpg

Ahhh, game bundles. Everyone loves them as they tend to ooze with more value. Unfortunately, not all consoles come with a great game bundle, leaving a sour taste in the mouth of purchasers. You can be assured that Nintendo won’t pull off a cheap marketing stunt with their upcoming bundle that places the amazing sequel to the highly engaging and entertaining Brain Age game along with a new variant of the super successful Nintendo DS Lite console. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, apparently Nintendo DS Lite factories seem to have a surplus of onyx and crimson paints, resulting in them producing a whole bunch of DS Lites that come in both colors.

Sony confirms PS3 price cut

July 9th, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware, Uncategorized

ps3-80gb-bundle.jpg

Looks like all the rumors are true - Sony has just announced that the 60GB PS3 will experience a price cut just 8 months into its release. You can now pick up this console for $499, after a $100 cut. Following the laws of physics, this means Sony has also filled the shoes of the $599 vacuum by introducing a new 80GB PS3 bundle (which has already been out in Korea for quite some time already). This new model is not out in stores just yet, making their way there only in August, and will come bundled with Motorstorm. At the very least this game is pretty fun and isn’t some discarded title that nobody wants.
