Nintendo to unleash Wii Zapper

September 11th, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware

nintendo-wii-zapper.jpg

Looks like at long last, Nintendo’s Wii Zapper peripheral will finally be released when November 19 rolls around. This long talked about peripheral has been speculated upon by many people to day, and it is nice to see Nintendo release some sort of official statement concerning it. Each purchase will come with Link’s Crossbow Training (yes, it does look as though Nintendo is really big on any sort of Training game these days) and it is animal friendly since you won’t be skewering any rabbits or wild game with Link’s Crossbow. Instead, you will use your imagination to manipulate both the Wii Remote and Nunchuck that are working in harmony thanks to the Wii Zapper.

Nintendo raises eyebrows with new trademarks

September 5th, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware

wii-body-controller.jpgNintendo certainly did move the hearts of even the most neutral of observers when it released the (then controversial) DS and Wii consoles, and this time the Japanese company is set to bring about yet another revolutionary change if their newly registered trademarks are anything to go by. For starters, these trademarks are registered in Japan only at the moment, and will feature the Wii Body Controller at the top of the list. This is nothing but a glorified hula hoop attachment to many, although I wonder how exactly will games implement such a mechanism without resulting in sore hips after 10 minutes.

More limited edition Xbox 360 accessories hit Europe

September 4th, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware

halo-accessories-delayed.jpgEuropeans often get the short end of the stick when it comes to new gaming releases, and such is the case the new IM chatpad for the Xbox 360 that will see action only when September 7 rolls around. Unfortunately, the rest of the new Xbox 360 accessory range will be made available only after Halo 3 is released, including the Halo 3 wireless headset and themed controllers. This is purely a marketing move, trying to milk every single penny from your near empty pockets by riding on the hype known as Halo 3. I don’t suppose that’s entirely a bad thing - after all there are certain quarters (namely hardcore Halo fans) who would not mind waiting just a little longer in order to get a matching rig.

Wiimote rival in the works?

September 3rd, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware

wiimote-rival.jpgWhile the Wiimote isn’t exactly the most sensitive of peripherals ever to be released in the world of video gaming, it performs its casual job just fine in order to enthrall gamers from all walks of life. Word on the street has it that Logitech will soon announce a brand new peripheral for the Nintendo Wii which could eventually usurp the Wiimote’s position in the console itself. In a recent exclusive interview, UK and Ireland country manager Chris Spearing let the cat out of the bag concerning this new peripheral which we will elaborate further after the jump.

If you’re a (really, really) late adopter and have yet to pick up the PS2 from Sony, now would be a pretty good time to do so. Arkanoid DS control scheme not limited

August 22nd, 2007 by Edwin in Game Previews, Gaming Hardware

arkanoid-control-options.jpg

As everyone knows, the DS Lite isn’t exactly a graphical powerhouse, but it does fare well as a casual gaming machine although there is a bunch of titles that also target those who are looking more than just five minutes’ worth of gaming. When it comes to arcade classics though, the DS platform, just like the Game Boy Advance platform before it, is king since you will hardly find any more ports of old arcade games on much more powerful home consoles. Arkanoid DS is one of such titles, and what makes it even more interesting is the game will come with a spinner controller for an improved gameplay experience.

Nintendo approaches No. 1 spot

August 16th, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware, General Gaming News

nintendo-wii-top-uk.jpg

The results are out, and official sell through figures from Chart-Track indicates that the Nintendo Wii is slowly but surely making its way to being the number one games system in the UK. At the current rate, Nintendo’s highly sought after console outsells the Xbox 360 by four to one in the UK, while for every PlayStation 3 sold, half a dozen Wiis are picked up by gamers (be they casual or hardcore, that’s another story to tell for another day). Analysts say that the Wii’s strong performance puts it on track to surpass the magical one million mark in the UK within the next month, and that figure would mean it has overtaken the GameCube’s total lifetime UK sales.

All Xbox 360s to get HDMI ports?

August 9th, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware

xbox360-now-with-hdmi.jpg

Some people in the US who picked up the Xbox 360 Premium console in stores have apparently found an HDMI port inside - something that was previously available only in the Xbox 360 Elite bundle. This news comes as a surprise, especially when the Xbox 360 price cut has just come into effect. With no word from Microsoft prior to this, I suppose it was a pleasant feeling to open up your new purchase only to find that you have received more than what you bargained for. There could be a reason for Microsoft not announcing this - people would just stop snapping up these consoles only to wait for the new and improved shipment, and that would be bad on paper when it comes to sales numbers.

Nintendo unveils Brain Age 2 bundle

August 8th, 2007 by Edwin in Games – New Releases, Gaming Hardware, Uncategorized

brain-age-2-bundle.jpg

Ahhh, game bundles. Everyone loves them as they tend to ooze with more value. Unfortunately, not all consoles come with a great game bundle, leaving a sour taste in the mouth of purchasers. You can be assured that Nintendo won’t pull off a cheap marketing stunt with their upcoming bundle that places the amazing sequel to the highly engaging and entertaining Brain Age game along with a new variant of the super successful Nintendo DS Lite console. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, apparently Nintendo DS Lite factories seem to have a surplus of onyx and crimson paints, resulting in them producing a whole bunch of DS Lites that come in both colors.
