Another day, another casual game this the Nintendo DS. I love my DS to bits, but this non-stop barrage of shovelware has got to stop sometime, somewhere. Seriously, who wants to play casual games and pay good money for it when they can enjoy the same thing over a PC? After all, the DS has shown itself to be a suitable platform for many mature titles that have both length and breadth, so why can’t more of the same be released by developers instead? The casual game in question is Slingo Quest by Slingo Inc., bringing players onto an island adventure while offering more power-ups, game play and number-matching fun.

Majesco announces Babysitting Mania for DS
September 24th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
Majesco has yet another title under the “Mania” suffix for casual games, and this time round it is Babysitting Mania for the DS. As with previous Mania iterations, Babysitting Mania is based on the hit PC simulation game where gamers are required to juggle various tasks often associated with babysitting including feeding, entertaining and cleaning up after unruly children. There is a total of 20 chaotic houses with indoor and outdoor areas to keep you occupied, and something tells me this is a niche product and won’t really do gangbusters in terms of sales.
Feeding Frenzy 2: Shipwreck Showdown head for Xbox LIVE Arcade
September 23rd, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
PopCap Games, a company well known for its range of casual games is now back with the popular action game called Feeding Frenzy 2: Shipwreck Showdown. This title is available for download through the Xbox LIVE Arcade online service, featuring a bunch of optimizations that are available just for Xbox LIVE. This version will feature high definition graphics, achievements and leaderboards in addition to different and unseen multiplayer modes. You can download it for 800 Microsoft points (the equivalent of $8), and Feeding Frenzy 2 will be the sixth title on Xbox LIVE Arcade after Zuma, Heavy Weapon and its predecessor among others.
Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
September 22nd, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
I’ve always found the Kingdom Hearts series to be something totally different and mind boggling, as it brings together two unlikely genres in a single RPG which is pulled off pretty well in the end. Square Enix is back this time round with Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories that will fill up the essential gaps between Kingdom Hearts as well as Kingdom Hearts II. The first title was released way back in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance, but this time round, the full 3D rendition of the Saga is back on the aged PS2.
Line Rider on the iPhone as well
September 20th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
I know that we covered Line Rider 2: Unbound a couple of days ago that will be made available to the Nintendo DS and Wii platforms before the year is over, but those who don’t own either but have an iPhone or iPhone 3G or iPod touch can still jump in on the action with Line Rider being made available on Apple’s platform thanks to inXile entertainment. It is pretty unbelievable that what started of as an Internet phenomenon has now resulted in a full blown game for so many platforms, and the iPhone/iPod touch version is now available from iTunes for a mere $2.99, which is a far cry from the console (handheld or otherwise) versions that run into the double digits.
Resident Evil Degeneration on N-Gage
September 19th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
Nokia and Capcom have teamed up to bring yet another title in the survival horror genre where video games are concerned with Resident Evil Degeneration that will make its debut on the N-Gage platform later this year. The entire gameplay experience has been specially tailored for N-Gage, featuring a couple of separate play modes, multiple mission types and 3D quality graphics - well, as 3D as your N series handset can handle anyways. Don’t expect it to look as lovely as the PSP or what the less powerful DS can conjure though, since cell phone graphics still have a long way to go.
Line Rider 2: Unbound heads for the DS and PC
September 18th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
The DS is certainly a platform for creative games thanks to its touch screen display, and this time round Line Rider 2: Unbound will be available on both the Nintendo DS and PC platforms. What begun as a game on the Internet initially has resulted in a portable and desk-bound version, featuring a trio of modes to help keep you glued to your portable handheld console or desktop without realizing that there’s still a whole ton of work to be completed before the day is over.
Majesco ships Zoo Hospital for Wii
September 17th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
Majesco has announced that it will begin shipping Zoo Hospital for Wii nationwide, making this the first veterinarian game for Nintendo’s best selling Wii. Animal lovers will definitely find this title worth a purchase, since it opens up the window to the world of treating and caring for a huge range of exotic animals, ranging from reptiles to mammals and birds. In a somewhat startling resemblance to real life, you’re (unsurprisingly) working at a struggling zoo slated for demolition, which is pretty much what will happen if the worldwide economy continues to tank.
Backchannel online game launched
September 16th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
Backchannel, a new, interactive, online game that is synched to the broadcast of select MTV shows has been launched. This title was specially designed and developed in partnership with developers Area/Code for exclusive use on MTV, helping enhance viewer engagement by connecting fans of the show through ‘competitive chat.’ ‘Competitive chat’ sounds a whole lot like arguing, but lest I jump into any conclusions and shoot myself in the foot, let’s investigate further on how Backchannel works right after the jump.
