The iPhone as well as iPod touch are starting to look like extremely viable portable entertainment platforms, but they still pale in comparison to the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS when it comes to a truly emcompassing gaming experience, especially when it lacks epic titles from the likes of Square Enix and the evergreen Pokemon series. Well, that has not stopped a slew of developers from rolling out a variety of gaming titles on both Apple devices, with the latest one being known as Spartacus: Blood and Sand, where you are transported into a world where blood and brutality within the arena equals to honor won as well as the favor of living yet another day at the expense of other gladiators.

Players embark on a journey of intense battles and fight for the freedom and survival of the Thracian hero. Characters, weapons and locations are realistically modeled after items and events from the original TV series along with special scenes produced by Starz Media that are featured in the game. The game offers various game modes to cater to different playing styles: Story Mode, Quick Fight, Challenge Mode, and Head-to-Head Mode.

Among the other features in the game are intense fights against combatants armed with various weapons and fighting styles, graphics that border on the realistic level – at least on the iPhone and iPod touch, weapons that can be found in the TV series, a range of attack and defense combos to help you vanquish your opponent with the minimal level of damage, unlockable characters to keep you going as well as an official trailer and cut scenes of the show whenever you take a break from all the virtual blood and gore.
