December 1st, 2009 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
PopCap, purveyor of all casual games, has recently announced that they will be taking a dip into Nintendo’s world of DSiWare with their new entry of an old but hugely popular franchise – the Bookworm series. Known as Bookworm for NintendoDSiWare, this new adaptation of one of PopCap’s most successful franchises boasts the pedigree of being one of the most popular, multiplatform digital word games in history as well, is touted to offer the highest caliber of gameplay available in a downloadable title which has been specially optimized for the Nintendo DSiWare platform. Available at Nintendo’s online shop for 500 DSi Points (the equivalent of $5.00), Bookworm is the first and definitely won’t be the last from Popcap’s stable, as one can also look forward to the all-new adaptation of Bejeweled Twist for DSiWare later this fall.
In Bookworm, players whet their appetite for spelling fun in PopCap’s hit word-puzzle game, an immersive title for word game aficionados of all ages and levels. Players link adjoining letter tiles to build words, complete each level and feed “Lex.” They’ll use Reward Tiles and spell Bonus Words to boost their score. Bookworm was originally released by PopCap in January of 2005 and has been adapted and customized for ten different platforms, boasting over 100 million downloads, and making it one of the world’s most popular, multiplatform digital word games. Now adapted for NintendoDSiWare, Bookworm includes the complete game action of Classic mode. All features have been specifically tuned for dual-screen, vertical gameplay, allowing players to hold their DS like an actual book, while delivering endless challenge and fun.
According to Ed Allard, vice president of strategic development at PopCap, “We’re leading our foray into the DSiWare market with Bookworm – a game loaded with deep, classic gameplay action that we believe raises the bar for what should be offered in Nintendo’s online store. We’re bringing quality, value and tremendous fun in this downloadable adaptation of Bookworm that’s sure to provide many hours of enjoyment and challenge to DS players everywhere.” Image courtesy of IGN.
