a-boy-n-his-blob-nes-coverMajesco Entertainment Company has been experiencing a renaissance of sorts for some time now ever since Cooking Mama for the Nintendo DS pulled them out from the lion’s jaws, and it was all uphill from there with a mish mash of casual titles for both Nintendo platforms that actually made money. Well, the company is still going strong today and they have just announced yet another game for Nintendo fans – A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia which is now available for download on Virtual Console. This is a classic NES puzzle-platformer, where it is celebrating its 20th anniversary by introducing itself to a new generation of gamers through its debut on the Wii. Touted as one of the most influential games in history (the original), it has been developed by WayForward Technologies earlier this fall.

Taking place in 2001 (the future from its original release), the game’s touching storyline begins when an Evil Emperor imprisons the inhabitants of Blobolonia. One brave soul by the name of Blob, full name Blobert, escapes his home planet looking for help. He crash-lands on Earth only to find a young boy. Luckily, when the Boy feeds Blobert flavored jellybeans, the blob transforms into various helpful shapes such as the Licorice Ladder, Fruit-Punch Hole and Hummingbird Honey. Using the magical candy and teamwork, the duo sets out to free Blobolonia and vanquish the Evil Emperor as they traverse through the head-scratching, side-scrolling puzzle action that has become legend in the annals of videogame history.

Needless to say, this is a typical Nintendo game with A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia picking up a rating of E for Everyone, where you can download it from the Wii Shop Channel for 500 Wii Points. For those who want to pick up the physical copy of the Wii game, it is going for $39.99.

Ahhh…..memories! I remember renting that game from the local video store and then getting home and finding out that my NES was busted. I never got to play this game and I guess now is my chance. :)
