Puzzle RPGs seem to be a maturing niche market, with Puzzle Quest for the DS exploding across different platforms when it was first released, offering a fresh perspective on tried and tested gaming principles. This time round, Square Enix has announced that the Gyromancer hybrid puzzle RPG title is now available worldwide for Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360, which clearly places this under exclusive territory for the moment. Will it help move hardware? Only time will tell, but Square Enix has enough pedigree within them to pull a surprise out of their bag once in a while.

Developed by the creative efforts of Square Enix and PopCap, GYROMANCER delivers an inspired take on traditional match-3 puzzle gameplay by incorporating RPG elements. Players utilize summoned monsters to battle enemies via stunning and challenging puzzle encounters. Assume the role of a rebel faction leader named Rivel, a summoner who has ventured deep into the enchanted Aldemona Wood to hunt a bounty. Players will be deeply challenged to solve compelling puzzles and achieve a range of objectives while defeating massive beasts – all within an allotted time. Along the way, they will earn great rewards for completing these feats while entrenched in a rich and engaging storyline.

Some of the features include an all-new battle system that has its roods in Bejeweled Twist, alongside the ability to command more than 50 different beasts in your quests to overcome the enemy. There is also an online ranking system that ought to see competitive-natured people give their all each day to rule the roost. This is shaping up to be more and more like Bejeweled meets Final Fantasy and hey, we’re not complaining. You can pick up Gyromancer from Xbox LIVE Arcade and STEAM for 1200 Microsoft Points and $14.99, respectively.
