A boy and his blob heads for the Wii

October 18th, 2009 by Edwin in Games – New Releases

blobMajesco Entertainment Company arrives with yet another title for the Nintendo Wii platform, where they will roll out a revamped version of a classic title that harks back all the way to the good old Nintendo Entertainment System back in the heydays of its 8-bit glory. The game in question is none other than a boy and his blob, where the reimagination of this classic will hope to see a new generation of fans on the 20th Anniversary of the original game. Both old and new fans will probably fall head over heels with the beautiful hand-drawn art which actually makes the game stand out, never mind that it lacks high definition graphics that the other two competing consoles have.

After the inhabitants of Blobolonia are taken captive by an evil emperor, one blob manages to escape in search of help only to crash on Earth and find a young boy. Together the boy and his new blob friend work as a team to solve 40 levels of challenging side-scrolling adventure featuring hidden treasures, deadly monsters, perilous dangers and boss baddies. Armed with jellybeans, the boy can transform the blob into cool and useful items including classics like the Licorice Ladder, Apple Jack and Tangerine Trampoline and all-new ones such as the Cream Cannon and Bubble Gum Bubble. As the boy and his blob work together on their journey to Blobolonia, players will be enchanted by their heartwarming tale of friendship.

Just to get an idea of how this is definitely not a piece of shovelware for the burgeoning Wii platform, Nintendo Power has called the game “stunning” and “fun,” rating it 8.5 out of 10, while Game Informer awarded the “beautifully designed” game an 8 out of 10, noting it is also “charming and innovative.” Expect a boy and his blob to retail for $39.99 if you’re interested, where it ought to be readily available in stores everywhere.
