Xbox 360 receives price cut

September 1st, 2009 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware

We could see it from a mile away, where the Xbox 360 today will experience a price cut from August 28th onwards, where it will receive a $100 price cut from the original $399.99 to hit the $299.99 price point which is similar to that of the new PS3 Slim. Of course, this pricing detail is limited to just units in the US only. The Xbox 360 Pro console too will experience a price cut of $50, where the new price stands at $249.99. As for the bottom tier Xbox 360 Arcade, this model will retail for an extremely affordable $199.99 a pop. In addition, those who are worried that the Xbox 360 might end up obsolete in the near future need not do so, as their “Project Natal” that boasts controller-free gaming will be compatible with the current batch of Xbox 360s.

According to Shane Kim, corporate vice president of strategy and business development for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Corp., “With the holiday season right around the corner, it’s already time to start looking for entertainment and gifts that everyone will enjoy. If you’re looking for deep experiences that don’t require deep pockets, now is the time to purchase an Xbox 360. We’ve got the best games, a vast library of TV shows and movies, new music experiences, more ways to connect friends and family, and so much more on the horizon including ‘Project Natal’ – no controller required.”

At the $299 price point, would you consider a brand new Xbox 360 instead of the PS3 Slim since they both will sell for the same price? We suppose this is an interesting incentive for those who are still stuck with the Nintendo Wii as the console of choice at the moment. Otherwise, it might be a good time to upgrade from your Arcade or Pro version to one which has a much more spacious hard drive.

I don’t think it’ll really help them at this point, but hey, price cuts are always welcomed. I was pleasently surprised though, because I found a better deal at this site – http://www.gamesncs.com/rd_p?p=191613&t=9528&a=29544proaddict&c=&gift=27220
