Crazy Monkey Spin arrives on Apple platform

August 3rd, 2009 by Edwin in Games – New Releases

The iPhone and iPod touch have finally been acknowledged to be competitors to Nintendo’s portable gaming bastion led by the DSi and its lesser sibling, the DS Lite. Well, despite Apple’s devices gaining prominence in the handheld gaming arena as a suitable platform, that doesn’t mean Nintendo’s position at the very top is on a precarious precipice. Still, if developers keep up the good work for Apple, that lofty position might be eroded sooner rather than later, and it remains to be seen whether efforts like Digital Chocolate’s Crazy Monkey Spin will push Apple in the right direction.

The objective of Crazy Monkey Spin is to swing through the zoo to save other animal friends. The game comes with 50 challenging levels in five different themed environments, including Antarctic, Savannah, Jungle, Aquarium and Bamboo Forest. Players can use the Multi-Touch feature to control the monkey by swiping and sending the monkey jumping through air, grabbing bananas as you go.

I guess that one of the advantages that Apple’s devices have over the Nintendo rivals (and the Sony PSP, of course) would be the relatively cheap price of its software and games on the App Store. After all, you can’t really fight with a $2.99 price point for Crazy Monkey Spin, and if you’re on a really tight budget, then there is even a free version out there, although this one will come with a limited number of levels. Let’s hope what Trip Hawkins, CEO of Digital Chocolate, says about this game will be true. β€œCrazy Monkey Spin is our newest game out on the App Store. Apple customers will enjoy this new type of action puzzler that is easy to learn and hard to put down.”
