Sakar to offer Wii MotionPlus accessories

June 5th, 2009 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware

It is a no-brainer actually, this strategy to take advantage of the Nintendo Wii’s amazing user base by releasing accessories that are meant to enhance the Wii gaming experience in your living room. After all, why play tennis with just a Wiimote when you can have a plastic version of a racket to add a touch of realism? Poorer gamers might want to tape their Wiimote to a discarded, real tennis racquet, but that’s a different can of worms altogether that we won’t touch for today. Sakar has heeded Nintendo’s clarion call by releasing a new line of accessories for the Wii MotionPlus range.

Sakar’s first five MotionPlus accessories include tennis rackets, baseball bats, golf clubs, zappers and racing wheels, all belonging to Sakar’s new iConcept Game Fury series. An accessory kit for the new Wii Sports Resort gaming collection will be released when that title debuts in July. MSRPs for all SKUs will range from $9.99 to $19.99. The Sakar accessories will attach to the Wii MotionPlus’ expansion port, providing more realistic gameplay that fully leverages the improved motion detection of the device. Analysts have predicted sales of up to 10 million MotionPlus units by the end of 2009 because of the ability to precisely mimic gamers’ hand movements when combined with the Wii Remote’s existing accelerometer and sensor bar.

These new kits from Sakar will help expand the company’s current lineup of Nintendo accessories which are already pretty sizeable, as they include stuff for the DS Lite in addition to the Wii. Having said that, I still haven’t come across any of my Wii-owning friends who have purchased something from Sakar, making me wonder how they turn a profit.
