inFAMOUS arrives on the PS3

April 2nd, 2009 by Edwin in Games – New Releases

While the PS3 is a technological juggernaut among all three mainstream home consoles of this generation, that doesn’t automatically place it at the top of the food chain. There is still the issue of games and affordability to think of, and this is where the PS3 generally lags behind its competitors although efforts have been made for the former to shore up its position, but with no price cut on the horizon for the PS3 anytime soon, it seems as though the company would lose more potential buyers considering the current economic downturn. Here we have a title that could peg one back for the PS3 camp – inFAMOUS.

Sony Computer Entertainment America announced today that inFAMOUS, the highly-anticipated, modern day superhero adventure exclusively for the PS3 computer entertainment system, will feature an innovative musical score created by popular underground electronic musician Amon Tobin, world-renowned composers James Dooley and Mel Wesson and electric cellist Martin Tillman. Developed by Sucker Punch, creators of the critically-acclaimed Sly Cooper series, inFAMOUS launches in June, immersing players in the troubled world of Cole McGrath, a regular guy turned superhero who survives a massive blast within Empire City and learns to master his newfound powers.

What’s interesting about this title is, its unique score will be available as a complete soundtrack download from May 21st onwards, so you can pick it up for $9.99 a pop. This makes us gamers feel rather shortchanged – imagine purchasing the game with the songs already inside – why not throw in the soundtrack for free? After all, we’re sure not every single GB on the Blu-ray disc will be put to use, right? On the other hand, other people might argue that that is the reason why movies and their soundtracks are sold separately, but do video game soundtracks deserve their own pedestal?
