Guitar Hero Modern Hits leaked for DS
December 31st, 2008 by Edwin in Game Previews
How many of you out there are currently rocking to Guitar Hero on your DS? How do you find the experience so far, is it any good? I personally find the guitar grip to slip out all too often, especially during the more frenzied moments when I had to face a bunch of riffs that rained down non-stop. Despite that flaw, I love the game – never mind that it is missing a fifth fret. Some might think that the Guitar Hero franchise has been milked for all its worth, and being a mainstream game, only uncool people play it. That doesn’t really matter to Activision actually, as long as they’re rolling in the big bucks. Activision has deemed the Guitar Hero franchise worthy of a third outing on the DS by registering a new trademark – Guitar Hero Modern Hits.
Word on the street has it (more like from the ESRB page) that Modern Hits will be the third Guitar Hero game for the Nintendo DS, following up on Guitar Hero On Tour and its sequel, Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades. This would make three Guitar Hero titles on the DS in under a year – this is crazier than those annual updates to sports titles! Unfortunately, Activision doesn’t have that much choice because the DS lacks the ability to download just new songs onto a cartridge, and hence the need to physically release newer hits on more cartridges. It would be interesting to see whether future Guitar Hero releases (if any) will head for the hugely successful Nintendo DSi or continue on the older DS Lite platform. If the former is chosen, then we would look forward to see how Activision cooks up a new controller scheme.
