Mystery P.I. – Portrait of a Thief heads for the DS

December 22nd, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases

The Nintendo DS platform certainly doesn’t fall short of titles when it comes to keeping yourself entertained, and you have a myriad of genres to choose from to boot. PopCap Games, purveyor of all games casual, have released Mystery P.I. – Portrait of a Thief for the DS, making it their second entry in the mature DS market after last month’s Amazing Adventures: The Forgotten Ruins. Mystery P.I. – Portrait of a Thief won’t hit your wallet too hard as it will retail for a pocket-friendly $19.95 – half the price of premium titles such as those from Square Enix.

In Mystery P.I. – Portrait of a Thief, players assume the role of a world- famous private investigator, called upon to solve the mystery of priceless paintings that have vanished from a valuable private collection. With 18 chapters featuring multiple locations, nine of which are exclusive to the DS, players discover clues as they try to piece together exactly how a gallery of paintings has disappeared without a trace. Players will also collect awards, encounter new characters and keep track of their game in the case log while unlocking gameplay modes and mini-games. Mystery P.I. – Portrait of a Thief also provides a dual screen interface and touch-screen functionality, and allows for up to three individual profiles so players can pass the game around to family members.

Nothing groundbreaking here, but at least it is able to tide the family through this holiday season. What are some of the other budget titles for the Nintendo DS that got you hooked? I know Brain Age works pretty well for me.
