I am an Air Traffic Controller 3 - Tokyo Big Wing for the PC

December 1st, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases

Ever wondered how the life of an air traffic controller is like? Well, you can now sample such a lifestyle thanks to the efforts of aerostudios (USA) and TechnoBrain CO., Ltd. (Japan), teaming up from two continents to offer the finest air traffic control tower simulator ever created for the PC - to date, at least. This is a spinoff from the successful series in Japan known as “I am an Air Traffic Controller 3 - Tokyo Big Wing”, and you can purchase it online here.

“I am an Air Traffic Controller 3 - Tokyo Big Wing” allows the user to act as the air traffic controller (ATC) at the Tokyo International Airport. As an ATC, you will issue instructions for route clearance, ground control, tower control and approach/departure control. It is the job of the ATC to issue instructions to ensure the ’safe and expeditious flow’ of air traffic landing and departing the Tokyo International Airport. A full 360-degree 3d simulation of the Tokyo International Airport is reproduced with exacting detail. There are 6 stages of gameplay at both normal and expert level. Each stage offers changing weather conditions, and different times of day. There are multiple cameras available to allow for a wide range of vantage points from which to perform your ATC duties. As ground controller, you will have to issue taxi instructions that will allow aircraft to move about the airport avoiding conflict with other aircraft. But, watch out for those runway incursions! As the tower controller, you will issue landing and departure instructions. As the approach/departure controller you will choose appropriate routes of flight to keep the aircraft on schedule, and avoiding all conflicts. The interface for “I am an Air Traffic Controller 3 - Tokyo Big Wing” is sheer programming genius. All instructions issued to computer generated pilots during gameplay is accomplished via the mouse, absolutely NO typing is required!

Would be interesting to see how you handle pressure when there are tons of incoming flights, as well as emergencies to handle including wind shear that will require immediate and decisive action on the part of ATC! Each stage will end with a video review session that helps you identify what went wrong while correcting your mistakes. No such second chances in real life, however.
