The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor announced

July 30th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases

Sierra Entertainment has announced yet another movie tie-in video game - The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor for a wide range of platforms, including the venerable PS2, the Wii and the DS. Apparently, the game will mirror the fast-paced action and adventure found in the movie, but it must be played to be believed. You can’t really rely on marketing hype these days, as movie franchises in video games rarely translate to a pleasurable experience, but is more of a chore instead. Hopefully this one bucks the trend.

In The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, a third-person action-adventure video game, players will take on the heroic roles of Rick O’Connell and his son, Alex (played by Brendan Fraser and Luke Ford, respectively, in the film). Gamers will follow the explorers on their harrowing journey — across exotic locations from the catacombs of ancient China to spectacular Himalayan peaks - to defeat the vicious Dragon Emperor (Jet Li) and his reawakened terracotta servants. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor allows players to switch seamlessly between gunplay and hand-to-hand melee attacks. It also features a fast and fluid combat system and an extensive arsenal of weaponry that can be used to vanquish the many bone-chilling enemies players will face during their journey. Fans of the film will fight their way through the Mummy universe by utilizing combat, puzzle-solving and hieroglyphic decoding gameplay elements throughout.

It will retail for $49.99 for the Wii, $10 less for the PS2 and $29.99 for the DS. I guess the developers didn’t really put in much effort to make a graphically impressive version on the more powerful PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
