Eidos launches Soul Bubbles for the DS

June 28th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases

Eidos Interactive has just unleashed yet another fun looking title for the Nintendo DS, and this one won’t be easily obtained from just any video game store. Instead, it will be available exclusively at a local Toys ‘R’ Us store and no where else. I don’t really like all this exclusivity business, as I would personally prefer to see my title spread far and wide in order to net as much sales as possible. Ah well, I guess Eidos must have done a study on the target demographic of their potential customers where Soul Bubbles is concerned and decided that Toys ‘R’ Us is the perfect venue to market their product.

In Soul Bubbles, the player takes the role of a young shaman apprentice who is tasked with saving lost ’souls’ and guiding them to safety. He must safeguard these fragile beings by placing them in protective bubbles so he can transport them through a series of increasingly treacherous and hostile worlds. As the shaman, use your stylus to draw the bubbles, then deflate, cut or join them to other bubbles to navigate through each environment. You must fill bubbles with water or gas, escape traps, extinguish fires and avoid all the sticky or dangerous surfaces that will slow the bubbles down.

Sounds more like a prolonged interactive mini-game that is found in Mario 64 DS and New Super Mario Bros where you draw trampolines under Mario so that he can launch away onto a safe pad. I know I had plenty of fun with that, and Soul Bubbles aims to up the ante further by offering a more challenging puzzle mode and an engaging storyline.
