Penumbra: Black Plague HaptX Edition
June 3rd, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases, Gaming Hardware
Novint Technologies, the folk who brought the highly innovative and award winning Novint Falcon game controller is proud to announce the release of the highly anticipated Penumbra: Black Plague HaptX Edition that will be able to function just fine with the aforementioned gaming peripheral. This game might sound familiar to some, as it is the sequel to Penumbra: Overture. Of course, you can always download the game over Novint’s Web site (http://www.novint.com) and from N VeNT. This new title will retail for $29.95 a pop, although you can also pick it up via a special Penumbra: Overture bundle for $39.95.
Penumbra: Black Plague is a first-person, horror adventure game that continues where Overture left off. Using the Falcon, players push, pull, lift and throw objects in a fully interactive environment with even more challenging puzzles and gameplay. The game also incorporates new HaptX effects for the Falcon, including soft surfaces, fluids and the ability to feel object textures at a per-pixel resolution.
While Mats Lordin, CEO of Reachin Technologies claims that “Penumbra: Black Plague is an ideal title for the Falcon and HaptX technology. Players can physically interact and experience the environment like never before and gameplay becomes more intuitive and more interactive”, I beg to differ as this will most probably be a novelty and nothing more. How many of our readers out there actually have the Falcon and play with it every single day without fail? Sad to see gimmicks being forced down consumers’ throats without proper implementation.
