Zoo Hospital targets the Wii
May 7th, 2008 by Edwin in Uncategorized
It goes without saying that while the Wii might be doing gangbusters where console sales are concerned, it isn’t really all that healthy on the serious software front. By serious software, I mean noteworthy games that are released, including blockbusters from Nintendo themselves. Unfortunately, the quality gap between those in that category as well as those outside of it is just pretty big, and rarely comes along a title that has absolutely no hype surrounding it but managed to gain a cult following by word of mouth alone. Zoo Hospital for the Wii could be a sleeper hit (not wildly successful but good enough to warrant a sequel, perhaps?) when it is finally released this August.
The game places you as a recent Veterinary College grad, where you will assist your Aunt Lucy to heal a myriad of exotic animals and save the once world-famous Zoo Hospital from a businessman’s bulldozer by attracting more visitors.
Zoo Hospital is the first game of its kind on Wii that lets players experience a veterinarian’s job. Players can use the Wii Remote in surgical procedures to eliminate parasitic pests, perform dentistry, X-ray organs and remove foreign bodies like gallstones to restore the health of 48 ailing zoo animals, including dolphins, gorillas, macaws and camels. Soothing and feeding each animal while following up on post surgical patients in their enclosures is as important as precise operations, since happy, healthy animals increase the Zoo Rating which in turn affects the number of visitors patronizing the zoo.
You can have up to two friends in the game itself to treat animals, making the entire experience all the more social.
