Unreal Tournament III for the Xbox 360 will finally be arriving on Microsoft’s latest console sometime this summer, after experiencing a whole lot of hiccups. To recap, the drama started around 15 months ago when Midway Games made an announcement that Unreal Tournament III will be arriving on the Xbox 360. That piece of news proved quite a shock, especially for PS3 fans since it was originally slated to be a possible PS3 launch title, making it a pretty strong candidate to counter Xbox 360’s hugely successful Gears of War. Later last year at the E3 Media & Business Summit, Sony fanboys burst out in song with news that Unreal Tournament III will instead have timed PS3 exclusivity on consoles, while the Xbox 360 version will not be released until sometime later this year.

Since then, PS3 owners managed to enjoy Unreal Tournament III on their console as it made its Q4 2007 release date by a whisker, while Xbox 360 owners continue to sit this one out. Thankfully, the long wait is finally about to end, with Midway and Epic announcing that this summer will be the day of reckoning for Unreal Tournament III to hit Microsoft’s console.

No exact date has been announced yet, but it should be out sometime later this June or early September at worst. The Xbox 360 will not be inferior in any way to the PS3 and PC editions, featuring all the updates as well as patches, with split-screen play, three whole new maps, a couple of revised maps and three totally new player characters joining in the fray. Good things come to those who wait, no?
