Mario Super Sluggers announced
April 11th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
Nintendo is a master of surprise, so it is no wonder that they have just announced a brand new title at its spring media summit earlier this morning with Mario at the helm (again). This title is known as Mario Super Sluggers, and it will hit Japan this June while the rest of the world will, as usual, wait until sometime later this year. The game will be somewhat akin to Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the Wii, boasting the mandatory number of mascot characters as well as equally silly gameplay. It sounds pretty kiddy in theory, but rest assured you’ll have your fair share of fun in the long run.
A brief demonstration of the title features a 5-inning match between the Mario Fireballs (firebats?) and the Peach Royals. Each team comprises of a captain, while presumably the Mario second stringers will make up the rest of the team just like in the Striker line of titles. Control-wise, it will be somewhat similar to Wii Sports where pitching and batting are concerned - pitching is achieved by holding a button, winding up and releasing it whenever the blue halos close in around the character, while batting is less complicated as all you need to do is hold the remote and swing at the time you think is most suitable.
No idea how much this title will cost, but chances are it will be a huge hit when released, just like virtually all other games that feature Mario inside some way or the other.
