Rock Band is a best seller by all accounts, and since its launch on November 20 last year, the title has moved more than 6 million game levels alone based on the songs purchased. Part of this success is due to an impressive weekly stream of downloadable content that is available since launch, along with more than 70 songs available for purchase. For a game to go six times platinum is saying a lot, and it shows that casual gaming is here to stay, with more than enough power to appeal to the masses.

According to Paul DeGooyer, SVP DVD, Gaming and Audio, MTV, “Thank you to the music lovers who have helped Rock Band reach an incredible milestone of over 6 million purchased downloads at such an early stage. The success of Rock Band downloadable content to date firmly reinforces our vision and its potential as a platform for music discovery. By empowering players with the ability to customize their Rock Band library with a rapidly growing selection of rock artists and songs on a weekly basis and adding great new features such as the in-game music store, we are thrilled to give fans more ways to enhance and enjoy their Rock Band experience.”

If you want to be part of Rock Band’s success and help the game garner a place in gaming history, why not purchase as many songs as your wallet permits? There will be more music made available for download each week this year, with prices ranging from $0.99 to $2.99 per track. You can check out the list of Rock Band songs up for purchase here.
