Scarface heads for mobile platform
February 29th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
Looks like Al Pacino’s silver screen gangster persona, Scarface, is now going to make his way across all cell phones with the launch of a new game - Scarface: Money, Power, Respect (MPR). This mobile title allows players to step into the shoes of Tony Montana as he begins to climb his way up the underworld while based on the streets of Miami. In addition to gunning folks down on your cell phone, you also have a whole slew of Scarface: MPR ringtones, ringbacks and graphics to choose from.
Scarface: MPR will be released at an opportune time, especially after the inaugural offering of Scarface-themed mobile content back in 2006 made quite a splash, selling millions of downloads, especially it most popular voicetone of 2007 featuring the unforgettable quote from the film, “Say hello to my little friend”. Since Scarface’s 25th anniversary is fast approaching, Universal is pulling all stops to provide fans with even more content, including movie-related graphics and voicetones, as well as greater challenges to surmount for Tony Montana - that means a whole ton of extra baddies in the mobile game.
The game requires gamers to “engage in high-pressure deals, intense battles against scores of rival gangsters, deadly ambushes, and high-speed getaways on their way to building up a crime empire and the eventual takeover of Miami”. I wonder whether parents know what type of games their kids are downloading onto their cell phones these days - Scarface isn’t exactly kid friendly in any context after all.
