You might not have heard of GestureTek Inc., but this company is a pioneer and world-leader in vision-enabled gaming and entertainment systems. It will be releasing its new gesture-control technologies at the 2008 Toy Fair that will bring an added dimension to gaming. While many people would be tempted to make a comparison of this with the Wiimote,I am sure that there are enough merits on its own that sets it apart from Nintendo’s hugely successful console controller. Without much further ado, read on more about GestureTek’s offering after the jump.

According to Vincent John Vincent, President and Co-Founder of GestureTek Inc., “For more than 20 years, GestureTek’s innovative gesture-recognition solutions have been blazing trails in the field of computer-human interaction. Thousands of museums, science centers, amusement parks and retail stores feature GestureTek installations. With our patented body-tracking software embedded in millions of consoles, digital signs and cell phones, people worldwide have enjoyed the GestureTek virtual world experience.” I guess that says a whole lot about GestureTek’s pedigree, but how will it revolutionize gaming, if ever?

Well, this prototype ‘Wii-like’ game stick will interface with gesture-controlled gaming and entertainment systems. In addition, it is also fully tracked in 3D space by virtually any camera-enabled device, be it a console, PC or set-top box without the extra investment of embedded electronics. It relies 100% on camera analysis in order to keep track of your position and is tipped to be more cost-effective compared to accelerometer-based solutions.
