PC-Xbox 360 cross-platform game
January 31st, 2008 by Edwin in General Gaming News
Soft-World International might be a name that is unfamiliar to most of us (I’m not in the know as well), but it is actually the largest developer/operator of online games in Taiwan. Introductions aside, a January 30 press conference saw Soft-World International roll out its new game known as Xenjo Journey Online. Xenjo Journey Online holds the distinction of being the first PC/Xbox 360 online game that is based on a Chinese-language interface - making this the firstfruits of its co-operation with Microsoft when it comes to developing similar cross-platform games. Porting it over to the Xbox 360 shouldn’t be too hard considering it has basically a similar hardware architecture to that of a PC.
Soft-World is definitely excited about this new development, and the company cannot wait to launch the PC version of Xenjo Journey in Taiwan, although they will only do so sometime in the second quarter of 2008. As for the Xbox 360 version, that depends on the negotiation with Microsoft that is still on-going where back-end data, pricing and operating management are concerned. Hence, this coffee table talk might see a 2009 launch at the earliest. That’s a double edged sword if you ask me - once people get too comfortable with the PC version, they’ll hardly make the jump over to the console version which more often than not, is deemed inferior due to the control schemes. Also, I would safely venture to say that most Xbox 360 owners already own a pretty high end PC for some serious gaming that can only be best experienced in that manner and not on a console.
