Gran Turismo 5 Prologue coming this April
January 30th, 2008 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
While it looks like Sony has successfully steered their PS3 away from troubled waters at the moment with sales slowly but surely picking up across all regions (it seems that the lower price point definitely helped boost sales a fair bit), they aren’t exactly out of the woods just yet. Sure, HD DVD might be hanging tough in there at the moment despite the mortal blows it has received to date, but its demise will surely see a surge in PS3 sales as people flock to the Blu-ray format - assuming they aren’t too happy with their current DVD collection. One of the main reasons (other than the price, of course) that the PS3 did not do as well as its rivals is the lack of quality “system seller” exclusives. The Xbox 360 had Halo 3, the Wii had Super Mario Galaxy (and Wii Fit, Wii Play, etc) - what does the PS3 have? So many false messiahs have come and go with very little impact. Will Gran Turismo 5 Prologue change their fortunes?
The latest instalment in this acclaimed racing series will go on sale in North America on April 17, retailing for $39.99. That’s pretty cheap - relatively speaking, of course, when you compared it to other PS3 titles that easily surpass the $50 mark. Instead of getting it in a physical format, those who prefer to just waste away at home can opt for the 2.2GB digital download from the PlayStation Store. Folks who settle for the Blu-ray Disc version will benefit from an exclusive making-of high-def video featurette called “Beyond the Apex.” There is no word on an European launch, although the game already hit Japan last December.
