Xbox 360 announcement coming at CES 2008

gates-keynote.jpgYou won’t see Bill Gates taking it easy despite being one of the richest men in the world for many years running already. This time, Mr. Gates himself will be making some announcements at CES this weekend, and some folks think that Bill will thrill the masses with an announcement that Microsoft will be working to prepare the 360 platform to selected consumer electronic companies.

In particular, Microsoft could work with Toshiba to develop a digital video recorder with a hard-drive, high-definition HD-DVD drive and Xbox gaming capabilities. They’re already allied against Sony and other backers of the Blu-ray DVD format, and Toshiba could help Xbox finally penetrate the Japanese market. Microsoft could also make a splash by announcing plans to give the Xbox 360 an internal HD-DVD drive, putting it on par with Sony’s PlayStation 3 that has a built-in Blu-ray drive.

What do you think that Bill Gates will pull this time? Do you think that he will have something to do with his gaming platform, or will he touch on a deal with a cable provider or providers for a 360 that boasts IPTV and the remote possibility of a DVR? It would be cool if the Xbox 360 actually had that functionality though (that of a PVR) since it would definitely spark even more fireworks in the living room where the king of entertainment will end up as precious dollars in the winning company’s pocket.
