Capcom dives into next-gen fighting games with Street Fighter IV
December 8th, 2007 by Edwin in Game Previews
Currently, the PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii might have a whole ton of different games but on the fighting genre, all these platforms are sorely lacking. The first two consoles concentrate more on first person shooters and action games, while the Wii is all about safe, family fun with its usual array of franchises. Capcom aims to reverse this trend by officially announcing the development of Street Fighter IV – the fourth instalment in its highly successful fighting franchise. This would also mean after a long lull of eight (!) years, we finally can grease our palms to duke it out with Ryu and Ken once again.
Purists and traditionalists will be pleased to know that Capcom will retain its famous quartet known as the classic “World Warriors” – namely Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Dhalsim. Both the characters and environments will be rendered in stylized 3D computer graphics, while the game itself takes the traditional 2D approach complete with 3D camera flourishes. You won’t have to grapple with more than six buttons and the D-pad, which is a good thing since more controls would just clutter up the whole game unnecessarily. Additional features include all-new, never-before-seen gameplay systems that is bound to thrill old and new fans alike.
There is no word on when Street Fighter IV will be released, but when it does, you can bet your bottom quarter that it will be an extraordinary experience never felt before. Gotta love the trailer on the official site – and the end of the trailer sums up all your waiting aptly, “Prepare Yourself”.
