Electronic Arts has dropped news that FIFA Street 3 is currently being worked on for the Nintendo DS. This will be the latest street soccer game from the series that will make its maiden debut on the Nintendo DS platform, featuring a whole new look that actually sees the transformation of global soccer icons into stylized action heroes. No idea if soccer will actually catch on in North America (the arrival of David Beckham at L.A. Galaxy might help somewhat) but chances are the rest of the world will go nuts over this title.

As with any other DS game, this title boasts an intuitive touchscreen control system that uses the stylus in order for you to perform various trick moves, passes and shots instead of executing it with the D-pad and buttons. I’m not sure how this would actually translate into actual gameplay as holding the DS in one hand and the stylus in another for hours on end is no mean feat. Still, it is better to actually play the game and see for myself before judging and condemning it beforehand. According to EA, FIFA Street 3 will see a release date of February 15th in 2008 in Europe and four days later in North America - the same time that the title will be released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 as well.

Players will be able to visit exotic locales all across the globe in FIFA Street 3, as they fiddle (I wanted to use the word finger for folks who decide to ditch the stylus, but somehow that doesn’t sound too right) the best players in the world who represent the top 18 international teams. I just wonder whether these rankings truly reflect these players’ qualities, or are they in due to some commercial tie in instead?
