Hispanic Gaming Competition to hold tourneys next year

latino-gaming.jpgLatino gamers finally have the chance to strut their stuff in a major gaming tournament from next year onwards. The Latino Gamerz Match, produced in partnership with Major Gaming Championships and Dallas-based, Hispanic advertising agency iNSPIRE!, is proud to be the first major console gaming tournament that directly targets Latino gamers. So far, the plan is to run the Latino Gamerz across five Hispanic-focused markets across the U.S. (including Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Miami and New York) from early next year onwards. In addition to various console gaming competitions, the tournament will see participation from the mobile gaming community as well.

According to Blake Pettigrew, president of Major Gaming Championship, “The Hispanic gaming community purchases over $700 in gaming products each year, but don’t have a gaming tournament targeted to them. Major Gaming Championships and iNSPIRE! recognized an opportunity to bring these gamers their own tournament.” In addition, iNSPIRE! President Tommy Thompson mentioned, “iNSPIRE! understands that reaching the Hispanic youth market goes beyond the traditional passion points of music and soccer, which is what most of the industry focuses on. The initial response from major media partners in the Latin television and online world has been very positive, and we’re excited to work with MGC to make the Latino Gamerz Match a huge success.”

I guess this is a pretty good idea to know who’s #1 in the Latino gaming community, and perhaps the idea could extend to different communities that culminate in some sort of global league. Wait a minute, isn’t that done already with the WCG?
