Advance Wars: Days of Ruin preview
October 16th, 2007 by Edwin in Game PreviewsTo date, I haven’t run into anyone I know that do not like Advance Wars. First released on the GBA platform, this seminal strategy game won rave reviews from all over, thanks to a really tight storyline, memorable characters, fantastic and deep gameplay (multiplayer was extremely engaging, despite being limited by the GBA’s link cable), and above average visuals and sound. The DS platform has seen a new Advance Wars title when the former was released, namely Advance Wars: Dual Strike. There will be a new Advance Wars title for the DS that’s coming soon, and that is Advance Wars: Days of Ruin.
Check out the video preview above – the graphics definitely look a whole lot cleaner, but one thing missing would be the cheerful tone found in previous games. Intelligent Systems (the developer) has also removed plenty of the “distractions and unnecessary elements” that plagued previous games (that is still a debate as some people like to watch the cute animations). Not only that, dual-screen battles as well as a sizeable amount of advanced units were removed, while unbalancing CO powers have been toned down in order to lend a more strategic feel to the game.
While fans might not be too happy with these ommissions made, they will definitely rejoice at news of the inclusion of WiFi battles in addition to voice chat. Advance Wars: Days of Ruin will be released on January 21st next year, bringing another 170 scenarios for those who can’t get enough of this highly rated franchise. Each purchase will also boast a Map Center system of sharing, rating, and downloading of online maps.
