Contra 4 for the DS is bundled with joy

October 15th, 2007 by Edwin in Games – New Releases

contra-extras.jpgAnyone who owned the NES during their childhood, let alone play with one will definitely have remembered the shoot ‘em up known as Contra. After all, who could forget the sight of two half naked commandos who has taken more trips to the gym that I would like to imagine saving the world with a variety of guns? Unfortunately, these guys aren’t that tough since a single bullet or the slightest touch from the enemy would render them as dead as a dodo, but it is their agility and ability to adapt in any situation while not losing sight of the target that made the game a huge hit when it was released. The Contra experience is now coming back to Nintendo’s platform, and this time in the form of Contra 4 for the DS.

I must admit, I am extremely excited about the prospect of playing Contra all over again on a tiny handheld, and with dual screens that are backlit as well as decent speakers, things could not get any better. Or could it? Apparently so, as Konami has taken steps to ensure each Contra 4 cart is loaded with enough goodies to turn you into a fan for this life as well as the next. Brace yourselves as you check out the list of unlockable content available :-

  • Original NES versions of Contra and Super C
  • A 20th Anniversary Virtual Museum (box art, screenshots, and info on every Contra title from all territories)
  • Two digital comics from Contra artist Atsushi Tsijumoto
  • An interview with Contra Producer Nobuya Nakazato
  • Five hidden characters, including a Probotector model
  • If that’s not enough to get you started on the Contra franchise, I’m not sure what will.
