Codemasters and Templar Publishing come up with new deal

October 8th, 2007 by Edwin in Games – New Releases

dragonology.jpgThe folks at Codemasters and Templar Publishing have just come to an agreement to release a new series of games which are based on the multi-million selling ‘Ology series of faux encyclopedias for the Wii and Nintendo DS platforms later next year. This agreement consists of the first three books in the series, including Dragonology, Wizardology and Pirateology. The first of the three (which happens to be of more interest to me than Wizardology and Pirateology) is tipped to ship ahead of the rest sometime in the second half of next year.

Other than the titles and extremely vague shipping date, nothing else much is known about these titles. The Wii version of each title will be different from its DS brethren, featuring a more action oriented approach to the source material, while the latter boast a more ‘explorative’ theme, and has been described by Codemasters as ‘interactive books’.

I guess the DS version might end up to be more engaging, taking on a style like Hotel Dusk which was pretty impressive. While the storyline in that game wasn’t exactly groundbreaking, it was the idea and concept behind it that made the game talked about in gaming circles. The DS platform has surely brought about a whole slew of new gaming genres with its unorthodox input method, but who would’ve known that fantasy encyclopedias could actually be turned into an action game? If you actually pick up the book by themselves, they are pretty amazing and engaging to read, but it remains to be seen whether the electronic format is as engrossing as the printed version.
