Wii hunters to experience deja vu

wii-shortage.jpgStrangely enough, Nintendo of America president and CEO Reggie Fils-Amie has issued a statement that the company has yet to meet demand for its console. This juicy bit of information was gleaned off an interview with the San Jose Mercury News, where Fils-Amie admitted that Nintendo isn’t meeting the demand for its console. He boasted, “We have been sold out worldwide since we launched. Every time we put more into the marketplace, we sell more, which says that we are not even close to understanding where the threshold is between supply and demand…Our inventory is lasting a day.”

He claims that many children will be left disappointed this holiday season despite Nintendo doing their best to satisfy consumers. I suppose if your kid has been hankering after a Wii, now would be a good time to get hold of one before the mad holiday season. Stash it away somewhere safe, only to bring out the surprise this December.

I find it pretty strange that the Nintendo Wii will still be hard to find this holiday season as mentioned by CEO Reggie Fils-Amie. Is it really that hard to meet the demand of the Wii? After all, manufacturing it certainly takes a whole lot less effort compared to the Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 which are by far superior and more complex machines. Demand for the Wii has also been tapering off in the past few months, especially in Japan as sales numbers have dropped considerably by more than half weekly since it’s heady days earlier this year. Is the Wii that hard to find in your town, or is the shortage problem already solved where you live? Fire a comment below.
