Shocked three times over

Looks like the rumor is now confirmed - Sony has finally put its spat with Immersion behind, and after a (presumably) hefty payout, they are ready to…rumble! The Sixaxis controller for Sony’s latest console did come under fire when it was first released since the rumble property was taken out. Back then, Sony mentioned that rumble as a last generation feature, and it is strange to see the company fail to back up its words once again with the revelation of a rumble-capable PS3 controller that has been dubbed (drumroll, please) the Dual Shock 3.

Announced by Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai during his keynote at the Tokyo Game Show, the rumble functionality will be compatible with existing as well as upcoming PS3 titles (Devil May Cry 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4), without dropping the motion sensing capability that Sony claim to not work well with rumble in the first place. Unsurprisingly, the Dual Shock 3 looks exactly like the Sixaxis, except for the word ‘Sixaxis’ which has been replaced by ‘Dual Shock 3′.

The new Dual Shock 3 controller will be released in Japan this November, while gamers living in the US and Europe will have to wait until next spring. It does make me wonder, why can’t Sony roll out this controller across all three regions simultaneously? After all, it is not as if controllers are region locked or something. If you’re a proud owner of the big black box known as the PS3, would you ditch your Sixaxis and pick up the Dual Shock 3 when it is available? If the answer is in the affirmative, at which price point would you shirk away from it? Do leave a comment below.

[...] For those of you who have been looking out for this game for a while now, the pricing details have just been confirmed so it is safe to assume that now would be a good time to break open those piggy banks and start counting all the pennies and quarters that you have amassed over the years. When November 23 rolls around this year (it’s a Friday - great way to kick start the weekend), proud owners of their Xbox 360s who have already completed Halo 3 for the umpteenth time and the now rumbling PS3 will be able to pick up Rock Band for $170. If you’re still rocking on with the 10-year old PS2, that console version will only be released in December 10 with a mere $10 discount at $160. [...]
