Looks like Xbots will have plenty to shout about before the month is over, as Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter claimed that Halo 3 will be the definitely blockbuster title for the Xbox 360 platform, capable of moving more than 3 million units in under two weeks. The launch of this highly anticipated title will also guarantee even more sales where Xbox 360 hardware is concerned. Chances are you’ll find more than 400,000 Xbox 360s being sold through the month of September, making that figure the highest non-holiday figure in a month for Microsoft’s console since its launch more than a year ago. Analysts also claim that the trend will see a single PS3 purchased for every two Xbox 360s picked up.

On the other hand, there is a rather alarming sign where PS3 sales are concerned. The dip in their figures show that the recent PS3 price cut did not build up any long-term momentum for unit sales, translating to an ever widening gap between Sony’s beleaguered console and the Xbox 360. Perhaps owners of the PS3 are still biding their time for yet another “killer app”, after so many pretenders have come and gone. Motorstorm, Warhawk (which isn’t too bad actually), the poorly rated Lair, and the relatively short Heavenly Sword that was fun while it lasted, but will never achieve a place in the Hall of Fame. I guess everyone is still waiting for new versions of old franchises to be released such as MGS4 and Final Fantasy, but until that day arrives, you can pretty much leave the PS3 alone in a corner.

Will you be picking up the Xbox 360 when Halo 3 is released this week, if you haven’t yet done so already?
