Wiimote rival in the works?
September 3rd, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Hardware
While the Wiimote isn’t exactly the most sensitive of peripherals ever to be released in the world of video gaming, it performs its casual job just fine in order to enthrall gamers from all walks of life. Word on the street has it that Logitech will soon announce a brand new peripheral for the Nintendo Wii which could eventually usurp the Wiimote’s position in the console itself. In a recent exclusive interview, UK and Ireland country manager Chris Spearing let the cat out of the bag concerning this new peripheral which we will elaborate further after the jump.
It seems that Logitech has the ambition to produce a single product for the Nintendo Wii console at the very least within this year, with further elaboration given during the interview concerning the debate between rumble and motion sensing. Chris mentioned that “Having the motion-sensing in the Sixaxis (for the PS3), that really works for some games. And for the Wii – you’ve seen people rush out and buy the Wii for that realism, if you’re swinging a tennis racket, you know how to do it. Hopefully we’ll be at the forefront of pushing that further, combining some of the two.”
Logitech aims to improve upon the current Wiimote, and he mentioned passionately that while he admires Nintendo’s current business plan in tapping into the casual gaming market, he was pretty sure the Wiimote could do with much improvement. And this is where the brains in Logitech work together to make the final hardware a possibility. What do you think Logitech will think of next?
