International Track and Field coming to the DS

nitf-online-ds.jpgRemember the Track & Field game that first hit the arcades many years ago? I never quite got the hang of that game, often finding myself bashing the button to no avail as my sprinter seemed to suffer from a bad case of food poisoning while the rest of the pack pulls ahead effortlessly. What about the long jump event that always seem to end on a sour note? Hence, when Konami dropped the bomb that they would be working on a remake of Track & Field, my heart skipped a beat. And then another. Would this attempt continue to frustrate average Joes like me (or is it just me who’s got a poor sense of co-ordination), or will it be a runaway hit (no pun intended)?

Well, my fears were quelled when I noticed that this Olympic-themed game (just in time for the Beijing Olympics next year) will feature guest appearances from different Konami franchises such as Silent Hill, which means much thought and effort will be included in this title. The best news to come out of all this is the inclusion of a robust online experience - an aspect which will definitely make this title soar higher than any pole vaulter ever could. Multiplayer is where the money’s at these days, and with a game like this comprising of a bunch of events, it will probably do too well in the sales department.

I guess I can’t wait to battle with the rest of the world. With the option to go up against three other opponents as well as join custom tournaments and official competitions, the replayability of this title will definitely rank somewhere near infinity. Heck, since you can connect online, this also means one can download even more content via Nintendo’s WiFi Connection service. Sounds like a fun title - where do I place my pre-order?
