Arkanoid DS control scheme not limited

As everyone knows, the DS Lite isn’t exactly a graphical powerhouse, but it does fare well as a casual gaming machine although there is a bunch of titles that also target those who are looking more than just five minutes’ worth of gaming. When it comes to arcade classics though, the DS platform, just like the Game Boy Advance platform before it, is king since you will hardly find any more ports of old arcade games on much more powerful home consoles. Arkanoid DS is one of such titles, and what makes it even more interesting is the game will come with a spinner controller for an improved gameplay experience.

This spinner controller is attached to your GBA cart slot (Slot 2) on the DS, but you would be surprised to know that gameplay is not limited to just that. For those who prefer to play without it can always use the stylus or D-pad and shoulder buttons, but I would say the greater level of accuracy lies with the spinner controller, although stylus controls would come in a close second. Unfortunately for the latter, this would probably mean turning your DS’ display into a permanent resident of Scratch City, so screen protectors are definitely a must here.

It will cost an additional $9.15 for the game to come with a white dial/spinner, but if you want it to match the color of your DS (other than white, of course), it will cost you $15.69 instead. Sounds like a pretty expensive gaming experience, but hopefully there will be other games that use the spinner in the future. I suppose Nintendo could have just released the spinner as an accessory for us gamers to purchase individually instead.
