The Sega Dreamcast is dead. Long live the Dreamcast. Although the console has officially been dead and buried for many a year, it’s status still remains pretty high among gamers, being the little console that could back in its heyday. Featuring brilliant hardware and equally fantastic games (how about going online for a bout of Soul Calibur and Quake III Arena with your friends?), it is still a mystery to me that the Dreamcast died a swift death shortly after its release. Nevertheless, having a loving community around the Dreamcast surely helped stretch this console’s longevity, and for its eighth birthday, there will be a couple of independent titles available.

Publisher RedSpotGames will release these two titles at the Leipzig Games Convention 2007 from Wednesday onwards. The first of the two is Dalforce, featuring an old school vertical scrolling shoot ‘em up (also known as “bullet hell” especially when you control a tiny spacecraft confronted by hundreds of bullets headed your way simultaneously. Dalforce is a four player game, so you can have your buddies join in some last-last gen action.

As for the second title, it is known as Wind and Water Puzzle Battles, bringing new lease of life to the action puzzle genre that was ported over from the GP2X. Both titles will be released in the first quarter of next year according to certain industry sources, since there are no firm dates available from RedSpotGames themselves. Do you still own a Dreamcast, and if yes, what are some of your favorite titles on it?
