Microsoft announces Xbox 360 price cut

xbox-price-cut.jpgMicrosoft will be following the footsteps of Sony by introducing a price cut to its Xbox 360 game console across all three SKUs. This move is seen to boost sales just before the crucial holiday season that often makes or breaks a company. The price cut will involve the Xbox 360 Premium SKU see a slash of $50 to $349.99, while the Xbox 360 Core that lacks the inclusion of a hard drive will see a $20 reduction to $279.99. As for the recently introduced 120GB Xbox 360 Elite model, it will see it’s price fall by a mere $30 to $449.99. How will these price cuts affect sales of this console positively? Only time will tell, but I must say Microsoft should have introduced a uniform reduction across all three SKUs instead of a paltry $20 and $30 on the Core and Elite bundles respectively.

To date, the Xbox 360 holds the record of being the only console in history to go without a price cut for 20 months – something even Nintendo and Sony failed to do. This speaks volumes for the Xbox 360 and its mass appeal, partly because it was the first of the next generation consoles to be released that brought high definition graphics to the living room. According to Xbox 360 group product manager Aaron Greenberg, “As we look to the holidays we want to bring in more gamers and lower the price for those customers. We’re always trying to bring down cost of the box and … we always try to pass on the savings to our consumers. We feel like this is the right time to do it.”

Will this move finally make you pick up the Xbox 360 if you haven’t yet done so already? I must say, with the promise of Microsoft’s 3 year warranty, the Red Ring of Death should become a non-issue.
