Orcs & Elves heading towards Nintendo DS
July 14th, 2007 by Edwin in Games – New Releases
Electronic Arts has just dropped the good news that it will be releasing the award winning Orcs & Elves on Nintendo’s phenomenally successful DS platform, while owners of compatible cellphones will be able to have their fair share of fun in Orcs & Elves II. For those who are not in the know, Orcs & Elves I and II are actually first person fantasy RPGs for the mobile platform that have made the jump to a handheld console. This game ought to be of high quality, considering how it was the brainchild of iD Software, the same people who brought us skin chilling classics such as Doom and Quake.
The Orcs & Elves franchise is most well known for maintaining a fine balance between storytelling as well as visuals of a fantasy RPG genre despite being on the humble mobile format, capturing the hearts of both casual and hardcore gamers alike in the process. It would interest those who judge a gift horse by the mouth that this game has already picked up numerous accolades, including IGN’s Best of E3 2006 and Mobile Game of the Year at the 10th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards.
John Carmack (the man himself) claims that Orcs & Elves is the perfect fit for the DS, and judging by this man’s previous work, I can’t wait to see how he and his team have taken advantage of the 3D hardware and unique user input capabilities found only on the DS and not anywhere else. Both Orcs & Elves and Orcs & Elves II will be available this coming holiday season.
