Looks like we have more Sim goodness heading our way, and the latest title to come would be SimCity Societies from Electronic Arts. This game is a welcome departure from the familiar but fun game model that is found in each SimCity game, giving players the unprecedented freedom to build whatever kind of city they fancy. Previous iterations generally led the player toward building a more modern and metropolitan city as the game progresses, but SimCity Societies throws that notion out of the window, enabling players to live in all sorts of cities such as “industrial” and “fun” types.

It all boils down to what you want, and the final product depends on the hundreds of different types of buildings that you wish to include. Each building will have some bearing on your city’s “societal values”, which comprises of knowledge, spirituality, productivity, creativity, and prosperity. Ultimately, these societal values will determine what your citizens clamor for. The overall look of a city will change noticeably as you move from one type to another, where industrial cities often sport a dirty look while fun cities have clear and bright blue skies.

Micromanagement will not have such an important place in this game anymore, so for those who always had trouble with power grids and sewer pipes will be able to rest easy. The hard work lies in paying attention to power generators, homes, money generators, and public venues, where maintaining a healthy balance will result in a thriving city of your choice. Interested parties will be able to pick up SimCity Societies for the computer this upcoming holiday season. Sounds as though EA is targeting the more casual gamer, after seeing Nintendo roll in the money with their Wii and DS hits.
