Mariners get Nintendo treatment

The Mariners’ Safeco Field looks set to be the candidate for one of Nintendo’s projects (not surprisingly as they own the team), placing the DS Lite on equal footing with hot dogs, peanuts, drinks, and a well-worn baseball glove. Apparently, the Big N aims to bring interactive technology to fans via a pilot program that will be tested this season at the Mariners’ home ground. Known as the Nintendo Fan Network, this network is capable of uploading a program onto the DS Lite, enabling fans to order food and drinks, capture all the action of the current game via a live TV feed, access important stats, scores, and play trivia – all for a small fee.
This is where your seat allocation doesn’t matter, and neither does it hinge on the DS color and version you’re using. This is definitely one of the more creative methods of utilizing the DS Lite’s wireless capability, bringing more fun to a portable console that already has tons of fantastic titles with more to come. While the program is still in its infancy, the idea is currently being mulled by the Major League Baseball as well as fans in order to make attending a live game more interactive. Pricing remains relatively affordable at $5 for a game or $30 for 10 games.
Here’s a question for all you Mariners’ fans out there – would you be willing to shell out more money for this interactive experience, or are you there to soak up the atmosphere and not sit there all the while staring at a couple of LCD screens? Just bring a copy of your favorite DS game along to keep you occupied during a time out.
