Jenga coming to Nintendo consoles

I’m not too sure about you, but somehow the thought of having traditional games ported over to the electronic format isn’t very exciting. Then again, I could be a dinosaur for thinking in that aspect, especially when those games are specially made for gaming consoles that aren’t exactly very ordinary in the first place. What better way to port something as quirky as Jenga over to the touch screen-enabled DS as well as the motion sensing Wii? Word from Atari has it that Jenga will use both touch screen and motion sensitive controls on the mentioned platforms to simulate the excitement of removing wooden blocks from a stack of…wooden blocks, one piece at a time.

According to a couple of executives involved with the electronic version of Jenga, “fans of the Jenga family of games will fall in love with this exciting brand all over again. We are thrilled to deliver this timeless and renowned game with new variations and surprises for the Nintendo DS and Wii. This new platform will extend the opportunity to play Jenga to video gamers and generate exceptional new play experiences. Atari’s Jenga for the Nintendo DS and Wii takes the Edge-of-Your-Seat Fun and party game style brilliantly to video game players of all skill levels!”

The release of this title will happen when November rolls around, as players learn to grapple with sophisticated physics engines by manipulating the Wiimote and Nunchuck controllers on the Wii while DS owners will have to possess subtle stylus manipulation skills in order to prevent the whole block of wood from falling down. I wonder if the microphone on the DS allows you to blow your opponent’s stack down during his turn…
