Nokia N-Gage going multiplatform
July 3rd, 2007 by Edwin in General Gaming News
Everyone remembers the N-Gage for the colossal failure that it is, and this is an image that Nokia intends to shed with its new N-Gage gaming platform. Don’t worry, your senses won’t be assailed by a horrific looking handset that requires much more trouble than its worth to play a simple game – N-Gage from now on will be a name that lives on in cellphone games, and Nokia is working towards making it a primary client for facilitating online play. The Battle.net of cellphones, perhaps? More about the N-Gage platform after the jump.
Word on the street has it that Nokia’s development team is working on a spanking new title for the N-Gage platform that not only caters to cellphone owners but computers as well. The game is known as “Project White Rock” at this point in time, and there already has been jokes, puns, and funnies on the choice of title – will be be as addictive as crack? It will be worked on by RedLynx, a developer most famous for the wartime strategy game “Pathway to Glory”. Not only that, the team is being helmed by Scott Foe, the same person who worked on the highly successful Pocket Kingdom: 0wn the the W0rld (coincidentally the first cellphone MMO in the world).
Other than that, details are scant. Could this be a new wave in cellphone gaming? How come handhelds don’t seem to carry any MMO titles considering the built-in wireless capability that they have? More details to come as news breaks.
