Halo DS - rumor or fact?

June 18th, 2007 by Edwin in Game Previews, General Gaming News

halo-ds-rumor1.jpgMatt Casamassina from IGN stirred the hornet’s nest quite a whole back when he mentioned that he actually had some hands-on experience with Halo on the DS. Of course, what he claimed was strictly debunked as a rumor, pushing Halo DS to the hallowed halls of vaporware. Casamassina isn’t one to sit back and let others do his talking for him though, as he brought this issue up again at IGN’s recent Wii-k in Review podcast, and I quote, “It’s a real game… we’re going to lay down some ownage next week or soon afterward by showing you guys that it is a real game.”

Sounds like this man is pretty sure of what he did, and he wasn’t drugged in some Area 51 laboratory while subjected to hallucinatory tests. It seems that the folks at IGN are pretty sure that Halo for the DS is a real title - or should I say was? According to Casamassina, Microsoft is most probably the main reason that this project never made it to retail shores. Still, it is interesting to see what IGN comes up with within this week. Will we actually see real footage of Halo on the DS, or is this just smack talk to ring up those readership numbers? (Not that they need any ringing up in the first place).

I personally think that while this is a pretty viable scenario (Halo on the DS), chances are Microsoft did not dare take the plunge to go ahead with such a project. After all, they had to show the world that they are able to hold their own in terms of gaming, and to release one of your IPs on a rival company’s hardware does sound crazy. I have found Metroid Prime Hunter’s controls to be slightly awkward, and the learning curve sure is pretty steep if you are a casual gamer.
