The Pokémon franchise has over the years, been one of the most reliable milk cows for Nintendo. Just take a look around the many consoles that have been released which feature the lovable yet irritating Pikachu. This little yelllow terror is an electric type Pokémon, and has since captured the hearts and imagination of millions of children (and adults alike) all over the world since he debuted back in the original Pokémon game on the Game Boy. Since then, Pikachu has spawned many a special edition when it comes to hardware designs from Nintendo. We have seen the Pikachu Yellow Game Boy Light, The Pikachu Yellow Game Boy Color, the Pikachu endorsed GBA, the Pikachu laden Game Boy Advance SP, the Pikachu Game Boy Micro, the Pokemon DS Phat, and even a Pokémon Daisuki Club DS Lite. Those who have been waiting for a Pikachu Yellow DS Lite all this while can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as this latest limited edition DS Lite will be available on July 20th as the newest Pokémon Center store opens in Tokyo.

You can’t just waltz in the store and pick one up though – there is some paperwork to go through as you submit your “application” at any of the Pokémon Center’s five locations throughout Japan. The deadline for submissions is July 1st, and those who have been deemed eligible (no idea on how the screening process works – do you have to answer a questionnaire to see if you’re a bona fide Pokémon fan?) will then receive a notification in the form of a postcard later in the same month.

Each of these limited edition DS Lites will retail for 16,800 yen (approximately $138 after conversion), so they aren’t exactly expensive to begin with. You can be sure to see scalpers selling their units on eBay not too long after though, and if your local import shop brings one in, expect to fork out a small fortune to get yourself a mesmerizing DS Lite that is both a joy and pain to look at simultaneously.
