Sony looks to card games

Ah, card games. How have they evolved since the early halcyon days of Magic: The Gathering (MTG) which kicked things off on a commercial, wide scale level (Poker Championships notwithstanding). Since MTG rolled around, you have plenty of variants that come in the form of Trading Card Games, Collectible Card Games, and Constructible Card Games among others, where they basically narrow down to who has the best hand, the most powerful combos, and (usually) the rarest cards. Sony Online Entertainment has jumped onto the bandwagon by offering a spanking new deck of PC-based card games.
No longer do you need to argue with your opponent over the different variations and interpretations of a particular card game’s rules, as the computer will be smart enough to settle all disputes its own way. This example is best seen in the Pirates Constructible Strategy Game that keeps the same gameplay flowing while throwing in the added elements of sound effects, animation, and doing away with the need for measuring cannon distances, adding an extra level of realism into what is already an interesting game on its own.
The digital version also features expansion sets, where players get new characters such as Davy Jones, creatures and devices from the bowels of Jules Verne’s imagination, and adventure sets. If pirates are not your kind of thing, preferring instead a space theme, Sony Onle Entertainment also has the Stargate Online Trading Card Game available. Boasting a quartet of different starter decks, things don’t get any easier other than drag-and-drop gameplay.
